This project we were supposed to make three patterns using found items with interesting forms. We used different grid systems to form these patterns and used negative space to bring the pieces together. My project uses a spiral potato masher, all in black and white. My three pieces side by side are at the very bottom of the page. If you'd like to see my process to these final three, please click here.
I used a basic half step grid in this pattern, the masher was reflected and was repeated. I had been a little thrown off with this one, not enjoying the very sudden cut off, but it worked out just fine.
This was a happy accident, I had originally tried to rotate the images to form a diamond grid. Though it turned into this, it is a basic square grid, the image I just rotated and the border remained square. The colors have also been inverted to create a more pleasing image.
Here is what I was intending to make with the diamond grid, I was able to make the form work and repeated the diamond grid. I have also inverted the colors to make a more interesting appearance, the black was an off color, making the white slightly more dull than intended.
Here are all three pieces side by side, I kept a black and white pattern as I thought it was more visually pleasing.
